Description
This oil on wood panel portrait of Fanny Appleton Longfellow was one of the last pictures done by the artist in Boston before his departure to France in April 1834. The portrait was given to Henry Longfellow by his father-in-law Nathan Appleton as a New Year’s gift in 1846. It hangs in the Longfellow dining room along with her sister's portrait painted at the same time.
