Description
A snowshoe convention in Montreal, Canada. Second from left is Rosaire Halle, mayor of Auburn. Third from right is Charlotte Michaud, a Lewiston reporter.
To the right of the drum, the man with the fur collar and black hat is longtime Montreal mayor Camillien Houde. He was mayor from 1934-1936, 1938-1940, and 1947-1954.
Houde was jailed for sedition during World War II for advocating that Quebec citizens should resist the draft. He was re-elected mayor after the war.
