Description
Bates College Chemistry Professor Walter A. Lawrance with students in the lab.
Lawrance was the Androscoggin Rivermaster from 1947-1978, a position from which he controlled the amount of pollution in the river discharged by three major paper mills.
He developed anti-pollution standards for the state.
