Description
Al Gilkey owned and operated one of Islesboro's many livery stables around the turn of the 20th century. Located in Dark Harbor, the stable served the Dark Harbor summer community. Liveries such as this one were in business much longer on Islesboro than on the mainland because automobiles were prohibited on the island until 1933.
Sign over door reads "A.P. Gilkey Livery Stable"
