Description
This unused, white-border postcard with its lithograph derived from a hand-colored photograph captured Bath in the early automobile era.
The Town Hall with its Revere Bell in the belfry is on the north, or right, side of Centre Street. In the foreground, at the corner on the right is the 1894 Sagadahock Block, a space for retail stores and many offices in the upper floors.
A barber shop is tucked in the basement level, its entrance revealed by the downslope of the street.
On the southern side of the street are the Lincoln Block and Bragg's Block, constructed in the mid-1870s, in the foreground. Earlier buildings complete the dense streetscape. The trolley tracks still were actively used, although the automobiles parking along the side of the street indicate that mass transportation was becoming less favored.
