Description
An image of the houses and shops along Water Street, as it appeared in the 19th century. Dooryards were stacked with ship lumber and tools of the shipbuilding trade as the homes were lived in by the shipyard workers. Water Street was accepted as an official town street in 1828, after which houses started appearing. Notice the pine planking sidewalk, an example of those laid throughout the town.
