Description
A continuation of the former Charles A. Morse Boatbuilding Co. established in 1912, the Lyman Morse Boatbuilding Co. was formed in 1978. Today the company has expanded to include an upper and lower shipyard with a facility located at both ends of Water Street. The building in the foreground is known as the Renaissance Building, or upper yard. On the right side or east end of Water Street, in the distance, is the lower yard, in which a new temperature-controlled, energy-efficient, "green" building was especially designed for large yacht construction, storage and service.
Site preparation for the start-of the-art building started in early June 2006 after many months of research and planning. The new 140-foot by 160-foot building with a height of 55 feet is tall enough to fit a 110-ton Marine Travelift that can transport yachts up to 130-feet in length. The new facility houses a large yacht service department and a centralized management operation It has the capability to build yachts well in excess of 140-feet overall.
Lyman-Morse is a custom boat building yard on the coast of Maine with a distinguished history. For over a century, graceful Alden Malabar schooners and sturdy Friendship sloops slid down the ways in Thomaston. In the late 1970s the boat building company expanded its focus to produce a variety of exceptional custom sailing yachts and custom motor yachts for world class naval architects and discriminating owners.
