Description
These two Federal houses stand on the hill above the early Creek Village, an early settlement in Thomaston on the old county road, now Main Street. The house on the left was built by Honorable John O'Brien, a brother of millionaire shipbuilder Edward O'Brien. John O'Brien owned a marble factory on Mill River. Honorable John Ruggles built the house on the right in 1827. He was a well-known lawyer and statesman, and is known as the Father of the present day U.S. Patent system. The two men married sisters.
