Description
Artist James Montgomery Flagg with guests on the front steps at his Biddeford Pool summer home, circa 1915. Author Rupert Hughes is seated at right (in light clothes), and was the uncle of the famous Howard Hughes.
Flagg illustrated the book version of Hughes' play Excuse Me, which was a huge hit throughout 1911-1915.
The women standing in the background are probably the wives; this would be Hughes' second wife, the actress Adelaide Mould Bissell, who shared the stage with Douglas Fairbanks. The rest of the group are unidentified.
