Description
The building above became Hallowell High School in 1887. The site was used exclusively for education since Hallowell Academy opened in 1795. After the Academy closed, high school age students attended the Hallowell Classical Academy on Central Street. The high school became the Primary School when a new high school was completed in 1920 on the site of the old Classical Academy. The Primary School housed grades kindergarten through three. Students then moved to Maria Clark Grammar School before attending high school.
The City of Hallowell sold the building to local contractor Benjamin Blake in 1958 and he remodeled it into a one-story six room house.
