Union Hall, Portland, ca. 1916

Contributed by Maine Historic Preservation Commission

Description

This is the only known photograph of the old Union Hall on Congress Street in Portland.

This building was erected in 1826. Almost all of the concerts given by the Haydn Association were in this second-floor hall, which was also used for large balls and cotillions.

The building, which Springer's Jewelers bought in 1948, was re-built in 1916.
