Description
The program for the 1926 Dixfield Band annual concert and ball at the Tuscan Opera House in Dixfield. The program for the night consists of styles of dance that were performed every year like the Waltz and the Fox Trot.
But for 1926, a new style of dance was featured; the Portland Fancy.
The Portland Fancy was a traditional contra dance, often danced to the tune of the same name. Sets of two couples facing two couples, either across the hall, or in a circle would create various formations and combinations of figures over the course of the song. While the original Portland Fancy is not known, as of 2012, many versions of Portland Fancy survive.
