SEE NOTE Survey Plan, Harborside (Harbourside), Northeast Harbor, 1902

Contributed by Mount Desert Island Historical Society

Description

This is a survey plan created by a civil engineer, Edgar I. Lord, that includes 10 house lots, adjacent common area, and several land lots. The spelling of "Harborside" is incorrect as the development was always listed as "Harbourside" in other information. The plan was conceived as a summer cottage colony and dining and club house building for the cottage residents. The developer was James Terry Gardiner and his partner, William Wiswell Summer cottages for each of the 10 lots and the Harbourside Inn for dining and clubhouse rooms were all designed by architect Fred Savage. The survey plan also has pencil notations of the subsquent owners of each plot and the dates and deed records of many of the lots. The full plan is available for viewing at the Northeast Harbor Public Library.
