Description
This triple portrait of his daughters was painted for Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in June 1859. Alice Longfellow, 8, is at top, Edith Longfellow, 5, is at left "with golden hair," and Annie Allegra Longfellow, 3, is at right in red. The image, associated with Longfellow's poem "The Children's Hour," was widely reproduced for public consumption during the 19th century.
