Description
In 1936, the Androscoggin River experienced record flood levels that destroyed the iron bridge between Durham and Lisbon Falls and severely damaged many of the mills along the river.
This is an image of the interior of the Worumbo textile mill in Lisbon Falls during the flooding of 1936. In the photograph, racing flood waters are submerging several dyeing machines.
The large piece of cloth were draped over the rotating bar in the front of the machine and fed into the dye machine, which had a large drum the cloth went around.
