Description
The Henry C. Haynes obelisk at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland has the inscription: "Weep not for him who for his country dies."
He enlisted in the Maine 4th Light Artillery Battery in December 1861 while living in Brooklyn, New York. He was promoted to sergeant and then 2nd lieutenant. He mustered out in November 1864 and died in January 1865 in New York.
