Description
Members of the Chassidic Anshe Sfard congregation signed a mortgage agreement with Portland Savings Bank on June 7, 1917 for their new synagogue on Cumberland Avenue near Wilmot Street.
The members of the congregation were from Eastern Europe and had met in several locations in the India Street area, and after 1904, in the basement of the old Shaarey Tphiloh on Newbury Street, before building their own synagogue.
The names on the page shown are Hyman Finkelman, Abraham Seigal, Wolf Russman, Joseph Nelson, Abee Herman, Abraham Iseman, David Finkleman, Bernard Cohen, Lewis Lerman, Bernard Cope, Loupre Fareu[?], Morris Finkelman, Gimpel Lerman, Harry Katz, Herman Cohen, and Abraham S. Levey.
