Contributed by an individual through Westport Island History Committee
Description
William "Bill" Bonyun sang a tribute to Verlie Greenleaf (pianist) during the Recreation Committee's Heritage Day Dance at the historic Westport Island Town Hall.
Verlie, age 96, played the piano for Westport community dances and events from the time she was a young woman. Bill played the guitar and was a folksinger who lived on the Island, along with his wife Gene.
The Bonyuns were known for using "heirloom" folk songs as a tool for making history teaching come alive. They made records for the classroom on their Heirloom record label.
