Description

Mustafa Fouad (Fuat) posed with an unidentified colleague in 1916. Fouad was one of the founders of the National Muhammedan Society of America which was established in 1915. On the back of the picture postcard is written: "Mai, 11 - 1916 Biddeford, Me. U.S. America."

Fouad (Fuat) appeared in the Biddeford directory in 1916 as a grocer at 86 Smith Street, with his dwelling above, so this photograph was most likely taken in Biddeford. Later, he moved to the Midwest before settling in New York and changing his name to Henry Kasem.
