Description
On July 24, 1927 Charles Lindbergh landed his plane "The Spirit of St. Louis" on the beach in Old Orchard Beach.
As part of Lindbergh's Guggenheim Tour following his successful Atlantic crossing, he was scheduled to fly from New Hampshire to Portland on July 24. Because of heavy fog in the Portland area, he circled the vicinity for 1 1/2 hours looking for a landing field, finally landing on Old Orchard Beach.
