Description

The Salmon Falls Dam on the Saco River between Buxton and Hollis. The view is upriver and toward the Buxton side.

The Lt. Samual Merrill house is in the background. The dam was close to where the Route 202 bridge was later constructed.

There were mills on the Buxton side earlier. They may have been swept down river due to floods by the time of this photo.

Log drives were common on the Saco river in the early 1900s but by the 1950s they had diminished in size. Log drives became illegal in 1967.
