Description
The illustration serves as the frontispiece of Life of Captain Jeremiah O'Brien, Machias, Maine; Commander of the First American Naval Flying Squadron of the War of the Revolution by the Rev. Andrew M. Sherman (1902).
The illustration is entitled "The First Sea Fight of the War of the Revolution" and depicts the battle that resulted in the capture of the British ship Margaretta by Machias patriots, led by Jeremiah O'Brien. They were in the sloop Unity.
