Description
The gardens are in full bloom at the Dirigo House on Long Island in Casco Bay. Hollyhocks, morning glories, and nasturtiums grace the front of the Dirigo House, a classic turn-of-the-century grand hotel. The Dirigo House, located on Island Avenue, was active until the 1930’s. All that remains of the Dirigo House is the well house.
Long Island had several grand hotels, including the Granite Springs Hotel (located on Ponce Landing, and which burned in 1914), Mountfort Inn (on Garfield Street), and the Casco Bay House (demolished in the early 1950s).
