Description
The flood plain of the Saco River in Fryeburg is prime land for growing corn due to its rich soil.
During World War II, this area of Maine produced more corn per acre than any other spot in the United States.
George French, Parsonsfield photographer gave the following caption to his photograph, "Where the cornfields of Fryeburg meet the foothills of the White Mountains."
