Description
This image shows a boatload of campers from the boys' camp on Moody Island on their way home on the steamboat Mineola. Parents and villagers have gathered on the Jameson & Wotton Wharf to wave goodbye at the end of the camping session. The fare from Boston to Friendship, via Portland, was $3.50 round trip--a special rate for campers only. The Eastern Steamship Company provided a daily connection to Friendship.
The camp brochure promised, "Parent who want to be near their boys for either the whole or part of the camp period can secure accommodations at reasonable rates in Friendship, within a few minutes' row from the Camp." Meals for visitors to the camps were 35 cents each.
