Eliab Shepardson with mounted ox, Stetson, 1931, 1931

Description

The float, shown with A.S. Rand's grandson Eliab Shepardson standing on it, was made for the Stetson centennial parade in 1931. The banner on the side reads,"Rand Ox Weight 5,000 lbs."

A.S. Rand of Stetson raised the "world's largest oxen." The oxen were named Mt. Katahdin and Granger. Mt. Katahdin grew to weigh 5000 lbs. After his death, he was mounted and displayed in parades around the Stetson area.
