Skowhegan Falls before the dams, ca. 1860

Description

This must be one of the earliest photos ever taken of the north channel Falls at Skowhegan. This view must have been very much like the scene encountered by members of Benedict Arnold's expedition to Quebec, as they approached the Falls dragging their heavy bateaus upriver.
