Description

This building at the corner of Main and High Street was built ca. 1805 as a dwelling for George Hopkins. During the War of 1812 it was owned by John Huse and used as a hotel and tavern. It was here on September 1, 1814, that General Gosselin met with town magistrates to negotiate the occupation of Belfast by his British troops. Later, it was occupied by A. A. Howes, merchant.

The other buildings on the block were built in the early 19th century and remained unchanged until 1894, when third stories were added to each.
