Description
Sisters Mildred and Madeline Burrage moved to Wiscasset in 1946, where their interest in historic preservation deepened.
In 1968, William Waters, Florence Bixby, Mildred G. Burrage and Madeleine Burrage gathered on the river side of the Bowman House of 1762 in Dresden. The Burrage sisters acquired the Bowman House in 1961 to secure its preservation, and sold it to William Waters and his partner Cyrus Pinkham, who restored the house. Waters later gave the Bowman House to Historic New England.
Florence Bixby of California was a descendent of the Bowman and Goodwin families and gave several original pieces of furniture to the house. The photo is dated 1968 from Bixby's visit to Maine.
