Description
On July 3, 1776, William Barrington, 2nd Viscount Barrington, informed Major-General Richard Lambart, 6th Earl of Cavan and colonel of the British army's 15th Foot Regiment, that the regiment’s clothing would be ready for shipment from Cork, Ireland by August 1. In his letter, Viscount Barrington advised Earl Cavan to disregard earlier instructions. Barrington served as Great Britain's Secretary of War during the American Revolution.
In July 1776, the British Army's 15th Regiment of Foot were stationed at New York, where they later participated in the Battle of Long Island (August 27, 1776), an important early British victory during the war.
