Description
In 1777, Zebulon Adams wrote to his wife Naby while serving in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. Though the letters are partially torn and sections are illegible, Adams mentioned that he had “listed in March” and served under Colonel Bigelow. This information suggests he may have been the Zebulon Adams born in 1744, son of Jacob Adams and Mary Hills, who died in 1778 while serving in Colonel Timothy Bigelow’s 15th Massachusetts Regiment.
In the letters, Adams expressed his love for Naby and their daughter, shared his uncertainty about troop movements between Worcester, Albany, and possibly Ticonderoga, and promised to write again once settled. He mentioned brief engagements with enemy forces, expressed gratitude for his health, and asked Naby to confirm the date of his enlistment.
