Description

Henry Longfellow sat for this portrait at Eastman Johnson's studio in Boston in September and October 1846. At its completion, he recorded in his journal, "All delighted with his portrait, thinking it the best ever made of me." He went on to commission portraits of his two sisters, four close friends, and two sons by the same artist.
