Contributed by Eastern Maine Medical Center
Description
To solve an acute need for housing for nursing students, the 1925 construction began on the Nurses Residence at Eastern Maine General Hospital (EMGH) on State Street in Bangor.
The building was completed at a cost of $235,000 and opened in October of 1926.
The 1926-1927 EMGH annual report heralded the opening of the Nurses Residence as the "outstanding event of the year."
Eastern Maine General Hospital is now Eastern Maine Medical Center and no longer houses nursing students. The Nurses Residence building now serves as The Riverside Inn, a convenience for patients at Eastern Maine Medical Center and their families.
