Description
The Presque Isle Air Base fire station was manned by nonmilitary personnel. The base, which opened in 1941, was a site of aircraft transports for the Lend-Lease Program before the United States entered the war, and continued as an Army Air base to transport planes, materials, and personnel overseas.
