Description
Charles Octavius Cole (1817-1858) painted this portrait of James Clark Burnham (1843-1930), son of a leading Portland family.
Cole was Portland's premier resident portrait painter beginning in 1833. He was a student of Charles Codman (1800-1842). He also painted landscapes.
