Description
Charles William Goddard was born in Portland in 1825. He was elected to the State Senate in 1857 and reelected in 1858 serving as President of the Senate in 1859.
In 1861 Goddard was appointed by President Lincoln to be Consul-General at Constantinople, a position that he continued in until 1864.
He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1884 and studied at Harvard Law School. He practiced law in Portland, then in Lewiston. He was a Whig turned Republican.
He was the first County Attorney for Androscoggin County in 1854.
