Description
Charles Octavius Cole (1814-1858) painted the portrait of Mary Lancaster Tompson (b. 1802), a school teacher in Portland and daughter of Samuel and Mary (Lancaster) Tompson.
Cole was a well known portrait painter, who worked in New Orleans, Louisiana, before settling in Maine in about 1842.
