Description
Frederic A. Sawyer, a native of Portland, was 24 on August 18, 1862 when he was mustered into Co. E of the 17th Maine Infantry.
He was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in February 1863 and a 1st lieutenant in November 1863.
Sawyer was wounded at Locust Grove on November 27, 1863, and wounded at the Wilderness on May 5, 1864. He was discharged as disabled in September 1864.
