Description
The basement and school buildings of St. Andre church before completion. Rev. Louis Bergeron directed and supervised the building of the church. Prior to building a church and school, Andre's Basement was used for church services and schooling for the children. In 1904 St. Andre received nine Sisters of the Presentation of Mary to be teachers in the school. St. Andre's church first mass celebration was on Christmas Eve 1910. In 1930 Reverend Decary enlisted the help of the Brothers of Sacred Heart to teach the 200 boys, in grades 5 to 8 while the other 1000 students remained in the Sisters' care.
