Description
The caption reads, "Greetings from Sandy Beach Camps, Oakland, Me." Oakland at the head of Lake Messalonskee hosted historic Oakland Park in the 19th century, a destination resort along the railroad. It became Oakland Amusement Park at the turn of the 20th century attracting large crowds. The area along the shores of the lake with sandy beaches were the site of camps for tourists, an example of one such camp is shown here on this advertising postcard.
The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1930-1945.
