Railroad roundhouse, Rumford, 1892

Description

This railroad roundhouse was located near the Oxford Paper Company in Rumford, between the Androscoggin River and Route 108 to Auburn. Roundhouses were built to house locomotives and redirect them via a mechanized turntable.

The trains in Rumford transported chemicals used in paper making and the processed paper on its way to markets.
