Description
Fred Philpot took this photograph from an elevated position, perhaps a telephone pole (note the boys on the neighboring pole), looking north along Main Street. Several horse-drawn buggies and two early automobiles are clearly visible. At the upper left, near the Springvale House, is a large wagon decorated with flags. Harland H. Eastman's "Sanford and Springvale, Maine In The Days of Fred Philpot," Second Edition, Revised, 1993 p. 47, discusses Indpendence Day holidays in the town.
