Description
Views of the woods and the Androscoggin Valley from the Maine State Sanatorium at Greenwood Mountain in Hebron.
The privately operated facility for treating people with tuberculosis was incorporated in 1901. Dr. Estes Nichols, the medical superintendent, believed in fresh cold air, a diet rich in dairy and eggs, and rest for treatment.
