Description
Publishers often sent postcards promoting their new novels to libraries, these served also as ordering forms. The library has saved some of the more interesting examples. If you look closely at the bottom, there is a brief synopsis of the plot; the reverse side assures us "the story, written in the author's happiest vein, works out to a perfectly satisfactory ending." William J. Locke published this in 1915. He was a prolific and popular novelist between 1900-1927. His novels have been made into twenty four movies, the most recent "Ladies in Lavender" (2004) with leading roles by Judie Dench and Maggie Smith.
