Description
John Parris Sheahan of Dennysville joined Co. K of the 1st Maine Cavalry on August 23, 1863. He was 21 years old and a teacher at the time.
He was mustered out on April 3, 1864, to accept a commission as 1st lieutenant in the 31st Maine Infantry, where he served until July 15, 1865.
After the war, Sheahan earned a medical degree at Bowdoin College and practiced both medicine and dentistry, first in Frederick, Maryland, then in Edmunds, near his hometown of Dennysville in Washington County.
