Description
James E. Kinney worte to Norman "Red" Wetherington about his experiences serving in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Kinney joined in 1933.
He wrote, "My father passed away when I was sixteen leaving my mother with nine children of which I was the oldest."
Kinney met his wife, Geraldine Emma Kinney while he was in the Civilian Conservation Camp in Patten. They were married in 1935, in Houlton. They were together 64 years before he passed away March 8, 2000.
Wetherington collected memories of CCC members in Maine, and coordinated CCC reunions. He is the author of "In the Public Interest: The Civilian Conservation Corps in Maine."
