Description

The stereo view of the Wadsworth-Longfellow house was one of a series of historic views of Portland published for Portland Observatory.

The house, built by Peleg Wadsworth in 1785, was the childhood home of the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. By 1875 when the view of the house was published, Longfellow was nearing age 70 and was one of the best known and most popular poets in America.
