The square, brown glass bottle is embossed, "Schlotterbeck & Foss Co., Manufacturing Chemists, Portland, Maine."
Augustus G. Schlotterbeck and Charles S. Foss founded Schlotterbeck & Foss Company in Portland in 1866. The company began as a prescription apothecary shop, moving to patent medicines and flavoring extracts.
