Description
Artist Eastman Johnson (1824-1906) made this charcoal drawing of Anne Longfellow Pierce in about 1855.
Pierce, a native of Portland, was the widow of George Washington Pierce, a lawyer from Baldwin. They married in 1832 and George Pierce died in 1835.
Anne, the daughter of Stephen and Zilpah Wadsworth Longfellow, moved back into the family home on Congress Street in Portland, where she remained until her death.
