Description
Eunice D. Sewall (1837-1918) wrote from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, to her mother, Lucretia Day Sewall, in Portland, discussing her job as a librarian at Vassar College and her "girls." She apparently also supervised a dorm or other living arrangement for students.
Sewall, who had taught school for several years, also wrote about the problems of miners -- and the coal shortage at the college.
Sewall's father, Kiah B. Sewall, died in 1865, while on his way with his family from Mobile, Alabama, where they had lived since 1839, back to Portland, Lucretia Sewall's hometown.
